the Home
The very first project WF is partnering with the Rices to create is a home in Calcutta for 8 girls. Our goal with starting here is to attack the very nature of the Orphan–Abuse–Crime cycle one life at a time. The idea is not to create an orphanage, but instead to create a home. An orphanage provides food and shelter, whereas a home provides a family, education, love, protection, hope, and a future.
The idea is simple: create a home for 8 girls from the streets of Calcutta. While 8 may not sound like much considering the tens of thousands in need, for these 8 it is literally their lives. They will be pulled out of a life of rape, abuse, and poverty, and will be raised in an environment designed to give them worth, and allow them to change their own culture when they are older, as well as allow them the opportunity so many of us take for granted: to dream.
These girls will never have to worry about being hungry, unsafe, or abused again. The Wanderlust Foundation endeavors to provide these first 8 girls with a stable, secure foundation. Once secure, more girls will be brought in and the program will grow, always looking towards self-sustainability as the ultimate goal. These girls will not simply find their worth, they will eventually become leaders for change.
